This is just a small personal project that I had a lot of fun coding. Using a few online tutorials, it took a couple weeks to finally get the functionality to work.

It's made with HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, and JavaScript

I am currently trying to design a new sprite sheet to get away from the bubbles theme, but everything works like I wanted.

For a little more fun, I decided to try my hand at a few little basic video games in JavaScript. I found a tutorial online that walks you through the steps of making 4 games.

Snake is game where you move around collecting food. In this case you’re collecting green pixels, but you get the idea. You grow longer with each piece of food you collect.

Snake was a game I used to play on my calculator in high school. So when I saw the tutorial for it, I got very excited. It took a long time to get it to work properly. Even with the tutorial.

In Asteroids, you start in the middle of the screen and have to shoot asteroids that could potentially destroy your ship, or triangle. When you destroy a large asteroid, it breaks into smaller sized rocks that you need to shoot again.

I found this game a little harder than snake to put together. There is quite a bit more JavaScript code but it turned out. I was able to add a sound effect I got of a free site.

The object of the Lunar Landing game is to pilot a lunar landing module to a safe touchdown on the moon. You use the up arrow to fire your boosters and land softly.

I found this game was very similar to Asteroids in the way the controls are set up. There are no floating objects to take you out though.

Space Invaders is a shooter game where you control a space ship, or a square, with guns, by moving it horizontally across the bottom of the screen and firing at descending aliens. The aim is to defeat rows of aliens that move horizontally back and forth across the screen.

This was the game I enjoyed most creating. I will be trying to go further and add real images to all of the games, but for now the functionality is there.

I made a simple Tic Tac Toe game for two players. I tried to add in an AI component, but could not get it to function optimally. I spent most of my time trying to get that component to work.

When a user clicks, the canvas draws the appropriate symbol by replicating the image from the score board above, with the drawImage() function. Once 5 moves have been made, it checks to see if three similar symbols have lined up. When a player wins, it draws a red version of the winning symbol over top of the winning pattern. In the case of a tie, it draws a red version over all of the symbols.

I went with a vintage board-game-style design, with a wooden board and wooden pieces. Personally, I love board games and play them all the time, so I wanted to get the feel of a physical board and pieces. I put the "scoreboard" inside a wooden inset as well.
